The Serpae tetra (Hyphessobrycon eques), is also known as the red minor tetra, jewel tetra or Callistus tetra. It is a species of tetra, a tropical freshwater fish of the characin family (family Characidae). It is native to the Amazon River in Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and northern Argentina.

Serpae Tetra exhibits a spastic swimming style, moving in short spurts unless stressed, which is normal for this species, so no need to alarm aquarists. Aggression in Serpae tetras typically occurs among conspecifics, particularly when kept in large groups where they can establish a pecking order.
