The “King Kenny” legend began with this machine, reviving the
popular R/C bike with the 1978 champion model
By adopting the S.D.S.S. (Semi-Direct Steering System) that enables fully autonomous riding, the Kyosho 1/8 scale electric R/C bike Hang-On Racer series delivers overwhelming riding stability that sets it apart from conventional R/C bikes. Since its release in 1992, this long-loved hang-on racer has welcomed a new companion! The model this time is the Yamaha YZR500, which American rider Kenny Roberts won his first title in the 1978 WGP (Road Racing World Championship) 500cc class. Roberts debuted in the top 500cc class that year, won the championship in his first year, and went on to win three consecutive titles through 1980, earning the title of ‘King Kenny.’ The Yamaha YZR500 is the first model in the Hang-On Racer series, and during its production, we conducted research on the existing 1978 model to precisely reproduce its form and details. Previously, the Hang-On Racer series used an inverted shock absorber with the cylinder positioned at the top, but on the YZR500, it has been changed to an upright type similar to the actual vehicle, enhancing realism and handling comfort. The body is renowned for its high level of refinement, and thanks to a system where the steering wheel and rider puppet are linked, it achieves both a sense of scale in cornering posture and handling. The 1978 YZR500 with its striking debut and the hang-on racer YAHAMA YZR500 1978, which recreates Kenny Roberts, are captivating kits that will be enjoyed not only by longtime fans but also by anyone who loves R/C bikes.
