Description
The proper name for dope is Nitrocellulose Lacquer. Dope is used as a clear shrinking liquid to tighten model aircraft tissue and to provide a waterproof, lustrous finish to Balsa wood models. It can be applied directly to Balsa to increase its durability. Unfortunately, it contains volatile chemicals and should only be used away from open flames and with ample ventilation. Often, dope straight out of the can, maybe a little too thick to use as is. A common method is to dilute it about two parts dope thinner with one part dope. Thicker dope will build up faster, but will not penetrate into the wood very well. It also tends to go on uneven.
