Description
Goldfish are the world’s most popular aquarium fish, originally cultivated in China over 1000 years ago. Much like the many breeds of dogs orginally progenated from wolves, all of the wonderful types of goldfish you see today have been bred from the same species; Carassius auratus.
Goldfish thrive in cool freshwater conditions, preferring temperatures between 18°C and 23°C and a neutral pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.
Size and Lifespan
Some species of goldfish can grow up to 30–35 cm in length if provided with adequate space and optimal water conditions. Lifespan ranges from 10 to 20 years, with some individuals living longer in well-maintained outdoor ponds.
